Renesas Electronics (TSE: 6723), a global provider of semiconductor solutions, today announced the expansion of its 32-bit RA microcontroller (MCU) family with two new product groups, the RA4E2 and RA6E2, based on the Arm® Cortex®-M33 core and Arm TrustZone® technology. ) product family. The new 100-MHz mainframe RA4E2 product group and 200-MHz mainframe RA6E2 product group are optimized for best-in-class power efficiency with no performance penalty. The new product groups also feature 128KB and 256KB Flash options and 40KB SRAM, integrate rich connectivity options such as on-chip CAN FD, USB, QSPI, SSI and I3C interfaces, and provide an easy upgrade path to other members of the RA product family. These new products will be ideal for high-performance applications such as sensing, gaming, wearables and appliances in small packages.

The RA4E2 and RA6E2, the most cost-effective members of the RA product family with CAN FD integration, offer small package options including space-saving 4mm x 4mm 36-pin BGAs and 5mm x 5mm 32-pin QFNs to meet the needs of cost-sensitive and space-constrained applications. In addition, the low power consumption of the new devices saves energy, enabling end products to contribute to a greener environment.
All RA devices are supported by Renesas Flexible Configuration Package (FSP), which includes efficient drivers and middleware to simplify communication and enhance peripheral functionality. the GUI of FSP simplifies and accelerates the development process with its flexibility to use legacy code and easily supports compatibility and extension to other RA product family devices. Designers using FSP also have access to the full Arm ecosystem and Renesas' extensive partner network, with a variety of tools to help speed time to market.
Renesas' RA product family continues to exceed expectations by bringing superior performance, functionality, design ease and value to the market," said Roger Wendelken, senior vice president of Renesas Electronics' IoT and Infrastructure Business Unit. The introduction of the new RA4E2 and RA6E2 product groups is a prime example of how many users have adopted the RA product family as their MCU family of choice. We are confident that these products will meet the needs of a wide variety of application areas and that many developers will choose the RA product family for their future designs."
Microcontrollers already account for more than 90 percent of processor shipments, and the applications that use these MCUs are diverse," said Tom Hackenberg, chief marketing and technology analyst for computing and software at Yole Group. With the continued expansion of the RA product family, Renesas can provide more users in more markets with optimal devices for a wide range of specific applications."
