Hynix Semiconductor, now renamed SK hynix, is a world-leading semiconductor manufacturer headquartered in South Korea. It was established in 1983. The company mainly focuses on developing and producing memory products, including Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM), flash memory (NAND Flash), and other semiconductor components. SK hynix is known in the electronics industry for its high-performance and high-capacity storage solutions.

As the world's second-largest DRAM manufacturer and the third-largest NAND Flash manufacturer, SK hynix has continuously carried out technological innovation and product development over the past few decades to meet the growing market demand. The company is committed to researching and developing next-generation storage technologies and provides solutions in multiple fields such as smartphones, servers, personal computers, and data centers.

SK hynix also pays attention to environmental sustainability and social responsibility, actively participates in various environmental protection projects, and is committed to reducing carbon emissions in the production process. Through continuous technological progress and global expansion strategies, SK hynix continues to maintain strong competitiveness in the international semiconductor market.

The development history of Hynix Semiconductor (SK Hynix)

Hynix Semiconductor (SK Hynix) was established in South Korea in 1983. It is the world's second-largest memory chip manufacturer. Hynix mainly produces and provides DRAM and NAND flash memory necessary for equipment such as computers and mobile products.

SK Hynix not only plays a leading role in South Korea but also in the global semiconductor industry. Hynix Semiconductor (SK Hynix), formerly known as Hyundai Electronics Industry Co., Ltd. established in 1983, was officially listed in South Korea in 1996. In 1999, it acquired LG Semiconductor. In 2001, it separated from the Hyundai Group and was renamed Hynix Semiconductor. In October 2004, it sold its system IC business to Citigroup and became a professional memory manufacturer.

Hynix is committed to producing semiconductor products mainly based on DRAM, NAND Flash, and CIS non-memory. Currently, there is one 8-inch wafer production line and two 12-inch production lines in South Korea, and one 12-inch production line in Wuxi, China.

Hynix is the world's second-largest DRAM manufacturer and grew into the world's sixth-largest semiconductor company in 2007. Hynix currently has sales legal entities and offices around the world. Hynix is firmly established in the semiconductor memory field mainly based on DRAM and flash memory. Through product diversification strategies, including entering the CIS business field, it is gradually growing into a comprehensive semiconductor equipment supplier.

Two major products of Hynix (SK Hynix): DRAM and NAND Flash

DRAM

In November 2008, SK Hynix released the world's fastest 1Gb GDDR5 Graphics DRAM. SK hynix has the industry's highest-level microfabrication technology in the DRAM field, ensuring the world's highest-level DRAM stability. It produces Graphic DRAM that can handle high-speed data, Consumer DRAM suitable for various digital products, Computing DRAM suitable for PCs, notebooks, and servers, and Mobile DRAM suitable for portable applications.

NAND Flash

SK hynix successfully developed a 512Mb MLC product based on 120nm technology in February 2004 and put it into mass production in the shortest time. After developing 20nm technology in 2012, it successfully developed 16nm technology in 2013 and put it into mass production.

Based on the highest-level technology and quality management, it is producing products of types such as SLC (Single Level Cell), MLC (Multi Level Cell), and TLC (Triple Level Cell); high-stack products such as QDP (Quad DIE Package) and ODP (Octa DIE Package); and is suitable for products such as smartphones, tablets, and solid-state drives (SSDs).

Based on the 25nm technology developed in 2013, Hynix Semiconductor successfully developed a product with 20nm technology in 2014. Through continuous innovative research, it maintains the industry's highest technological strength and ensures customers' quality requirements. In the design stage, not only high performance (High Speed) and high capacity (High Density) are considered, but also low power consumption is considered.

Environmentally friendly products are developed, and the development of environmentally friendly products and mass production are the goals to lead product development. The newly released 1Gb GDDR5 is a product developed based on Hynix Semiconductor's most advanced 54nm processing technology. 1Gb GDDR5 achieves a speed of 7Gbps or a processing capacity of 28GB/s, which is 40% improved compared to 66nm GDDR5 with 5Gbps.

At the same time, 1Gb GDDR5 uses a 1.35V power supply device to minimize power consumption in the design. This product is ideal for high-performance applications. It is also used in high-performance PCs and next-generation game controllers that require better graphics performance and quality, providing consumers with more abundant fun. Hynix Semiconductor also supports GDDR3, DDR3, and DDR2 products for high-performance and mainstream markets. Hynix Semiconductor's DDR3 SDRAM is a high-performance, low-power consumption product. DDR3 SDRAM can transmit data at a maximum speed of 1.6Gb/s, and the operating voltage is 1.5V. Currently, Hynix Semiconductor provides high-performance DDR3 with high integration of 1Gb and 2Gb. The 4Gb product was put into mass production in 2012.

Application fields of Hynix products

Consumer electronics, data centers and servers, automotive electronics, Internet of Things (IoT), network equipment, medical equipment, high-performance computing (HPC).
