TE Connectivity, formerly known as Tyco Electronics, is a global company headquartered in Switzerland. Founded in 1941, it is a modern industrial enterprise specializing in the design and manufacturing of connectors, sensors, and electronic components. TE Connectivity's product design and manufacturing capabilities cover more than 500,000 products, serving multiple industries including automotive, aerospace, consumer electronics, communications and enterprise networking, medical, energy, and lighting.

TE Connectivity Products

TE Connectivity designs manufactures, and sells approximately 500,000 products for over 20,000 customers in various industries such as automotive, data transmission systems, consumer electronics, communications and enterprise networking, aerospace, defense and marine, medical, energy, and lighting. Each of our technologies, products, and services has performance advantages. These products include connector systems, relays, optical fibers, circuit protection devices, distributed antenna systems, wires and cables, touch screens, heat shrink tubing, racks and patch panels, network cable systems, and submarine telecommunications systems.

TE Connectivity Technologies

TE Connectivity invests approximately 5% of its annual sales revenue in research, development, and engineering design. In 2010 alone, the investment reached $585 million. These efforts are supported by approximately 8,000 engineers in 14 global design centers who work closely with customers to develop application-specific, well-designed products and systems to meet customer needs. TE Connectivity files more than 1,500 patents each year and holds a total of more than 20,000 patents and patent applications. TE Connectivity's innovation, early design involvement, and material expertise provide customers with a competitive advantage by enabling new functions, helping customers improve the performance of existing products, delivering new products to the market faster, and achieving higher efficiency in their manufacturing processes.

TE Connectivity History

TE Connectivity has a history of more than 50 years of leadership and is a global company with annual sales of $14 billion, designing and manufacturing more than 500,000 products to connect and protect the power and data flows in products that touch every aspect of our lives. Our 90,000 employees partner with customers in almost every industry - from consumer electronics, energy, and healthcare to automotive, aerospace, and communication networks - to enable smarter, faster, and better technologies to connect products and maximize their potential.

TE Connectivity's rich history stems from two great companies, each with impressive engineering prestige and heritage. AMP Incorporated was founded in 1941 and developed a method for solderless connection of electrical terminals to wires, which not only improved the consistency of connections but also increased manufacturing efficiency. For more than 50 years, AMP dominated the rapidly growing connector industry and has been a leading manufacturer of terminals, connectors, and related products - its components are used in almost any finished electronic device, from toasters to supercomputers. The company quickly adopted a global strategy, first establishing operations in France in 1952 and in Japan in 1956. By the 1990s, AMP's global footprint extended to more than 50 countries with annual sales exceeding $5 billion.

Raychem Corporation was founded in 1957 based on the then-emerging field of radiation chemistry technology (hence the name Raychem). Relying on this technology, the company's founders worked with material experts to successfully develop many products, such as aerospace cables and heat shrink tubing. Soon after, Raychem introduced more products through the application of these core technologies, including innovative circuit protection products (which can automatically reset after circuit faults are resolved).

In 1999, AMP merged with Tyco International Ltd and then acquired Raychem in the same year. These two leaders in the electronics industry jointly laid a solid foundation for the subsequent development of TE Connectivity.

In the following two years, more strategic mergers and acquisitions further broadened the company's product portfolio. The produced electronic and electrical components and systems span more than 20 different product categories. Today, the company's product portfolio is far more than just connectors but also includes relays, optical fibers, wireless components, touch screens, etc., totaling about 500,000 different part numbers. In terms of the variety of products and services, no other supplier can compete with TE Connectivity.

Tyco Electronics separated from Tyco International in 2007 and became an independent company. In March 2011, Tyco Electronics changed its name to TE Connectivity to better reflect the products and solutions it provides to customers. Continuing to focus on customers, TE Connectivity operates in more than 50 countries, has manufacturing facilities in about 20 countries, and is strategically located adjacent to customers' facilities. Although manufacturing operations are shifting to emerging regions such as China and Eastern Europe, the company's strategy remains to maintain a balanced operational presence in the three major regions of the world.
