A few days ago, many chips in the use of 40nm, 65nm and even 130nm of these processes, and not a low percentage. For example, the first generation foundry TSMC, there are 25% of the revenue still from 40nm and more mature processes, UMC's ratio is even up to 80%, SMIC mature process revenue accounted for 81.4%.

These processes are very mature, the yield rate is very high, the cost is very low, for PMIC power management unit, IoT chip performance is also sufficient, natural longevity. Foundries are also reluctant to stay late on these less profitable obsolete processes, TSMC is ready to increase the 28nm process capacity by 50%, which is the last stop before FinFET stereotaxic transistors, the most classic process.
TSMC said it will not expand the capacity of 40nm and more mature processes, because many customers are using 40nm, 65nm process customers are moving to 28nm, 22nm, TSMC is also actively helping them to transfer, and call for more customers to follow.
TSMC said that the 28nm process is a bit more expensive than 40nm and 65nm, but the same wafer can make more chips and spread the cost.
