TSMC 2023 Revenue Down 4.5%, Operating Profit down ~20.5%, Five-year Profit over $120 billion, more than Doubled

TSMC announced its revenue figures for December 2023 on January 10: total revenue of NT$176.3 billion, down 8.44% year-over-year and down 14.43% sequentially. 2023 full-year revenue totaled NT$216,173.5 billion (approximately US$69,392 million at the current U.S. Dollar exchange rate), a decrease of 4.5% year-over-year compared to 2022. 2023 full-year operating profit of approximately US$29,832 million, a decrease of 20.5% year-over-year.
Despite the overall revenue decline in 2023, October 2023 saw record revenue of NT$243,203 million. The decline for the year was mainly due to a larger decline at the beginning of the year.
In terms of annual revenue, 2022 was a record year, with a record operating profit of NT$37,529 million. 2023 saw a sharp 20.5% drop in operating profit to NT$29,832 million.
Nonetheless, over the five-year period, TSMC more than doubled both its revenue and operating profit: revenue grew from NT$1,069,985 million in 2019 to NT$2,161,735 million in 2023, a 202% increase; and operating profit grew from NT$12.076 billion in 2019 to NT$29.832 billion in 2023, a a growth of 247%.
