Nov. 30, 2022 - Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) recently announced the launch of a new series of screw-in aluminum electrolytic capacitors, the 202 PML-ST, that allow designers to store more energy in less space. Available in 11 small package form factors from 35 mm x 60 mm to 90 mm x 220 mm, the Vishay BCcomponents 202 PML-ST series capacitors feature higher capacitance/voltage (CV) values than previous-generation solutions, ripple currents up to 49.6 A at +85 °C, ESR as low as 2 mW, and lifetime up to 10,000 hours.
The recently released electrolytic capacitors are available in blue sleeve-insulated cylindrical aluminum cases with sealed discs with voltage reduction, with high capacitance/high voltage combinations from 200 V to 450 V and 56 000 µF to 15 000 µF. For example, the 2200µF/400 V rated CV device was previously packaged in a 65 mm x 105 mm package and is now packaged in a 50 mm x 105 mm form factor. capacitor ripple current and ESR are better than similar form factor rated CV devices from previous generation solutions. For example, 4700µF/400 V rated CV devices have 12% higher ripple current and 16% lower ESR.
As polarized aluminum electrolytic capacitors with a non-solid electrolyte, the devices are RoHS compliant and are particularly suitable for a wide range of pulsed power supply filtering, buffering and energy storage applications requiring 10 to 15 years of service life. Typical end products include industrial motor drives, train and subway traction, welding machines, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), UPS, wind turbine and photovoltaic inverters, and medical X-ray machines.
A limited number of catalog library devices are available in sample quantities. 202 PML-ST series capacitors are now in mass production with 18 to 20 week lead times.
