AMD is developing a secret weapon: 100 billion transistor chips

        At the Adobe Summit a few days ago, AMD CEO Su Zifeng also talked about his views on AI. She believes AI will be the most important thing in the next 10 years. It will help humans improve productivity, and it is equally important for AMD to improve enterprise productivity. Su Zifeng stressed that AI is still in its early stages, and it needs to increase productivity by 50% or even 80% in the future, and there is still a lot of work to be done.
        AI improvement also requires a lot of computing power. Su Zifeng said AMD is making chips that exceed 100 billion transistors. It will take 3 years to build from scratch. At this time, AI can become an important tool to help developers cut their work time in half, simplifying the development process.
        The secret weapon of this 100 billion transistor that AMD said is actually the Instinct MI300 released not long ago, which is a new generation of supercomputing/AI acceleration card that integrates CPU and GPU chips for the first time. MI300 adopts multi-chip, multi-IP integrated packaging design, 5nm advanced manufacturing process, and the number of transistors is as high as 146 billion! It also integrates GPU units of CDNA3 architecture (the specific number of cores is not disclosed), 24 CPU cores of Zen4 architecture, large capacity Infinity Cache unlimited cache, and 8192-bit wide, 128GB capacity HBM3 high bandwidth memory.
