Google Tensor G3 chip is actually a revised Samsung Exynos 2300 chip

Tensor G3 is Google's next custom SoC, which is expected to be used in the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro flagship products launched this year. In the past, Google has chosen to cooperate with Samsung in the development of the Tensor series, and its SoCs are more or less shadows of the latter Exynos series.

According to reports, the Google Tensor G3 chip is expected to be unveiled in Google's upcoming flagship Pixel 8 series. It should be noted that the Google Tensor G3 chip will be OEM by Samsung Electronics using the 3nm process process and is expected to be launched in the second half of next year.
Today, according to wccftech, the Google Tensor G3 chip may be a revised Samsung Exynos 2300 processor. The news said that the Google Tensor G3 chip will use the "1 + 4 + 4" architecture. The CPU is a Cortex-X3 high-performance core with a main frequency of 3.09GHz, four ARM Cortex-A715 performance cores running at 2.65GHz and four ARM Cortex-A510 efficiency cores running at 2.10GHz.
The GPU part is more interesting. The Tensor G3 no longer uses ARM Mali GPUs, and may enable the Xclipse 930 jointly developed by Samsung and AMD, which is an upgraded version of the Xclipse 920 used by the Exynos 2200. This may be the biggest change in the new SoC. Due to the poor performance of the previous Exynos 2200, you can only expect improvements in the Xclipse 930. In addition, the Google Tensor G3 chip is expected to use Samsung's third-generation 3nm process, with improved performance and lower power consumption.
Unlike previous rumors, the Tensor G3 could be manufactured on Samsung's third-generation 4nm process instead of the 3nm process. Compared to the 5nm Tensor G2 process, it is still improved, and there should be better performance and energy consumption performance. However, since the actual performance of Tensor series SoCs in the past is often lower than the paper specifications, the performance estimates of Tensor G3 should be reserved, and the final comprehensive performance may be similar to that of Qualcomm's first generation Snapdragon 8 +.
