MediaTek, Google Collaborate on New Filogic Chip: Supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Thread Protocols Simultaneously

Today MediaTek and Google officially announced a partnership to develop a new generation of smart home technology. At a time when smart home devices are becoming increasingly popular, the demand for products that apply the Thread and Matter protocols is growing. In order to drive further development in this area, the two companies plan to join forces to develop new 2x2Filogic chips designed for future smart home products.
Thread is a wireless mesh network networking protocol, built on the IEEE 802.15.4 communication standard, and is considered an evolved form of ZigBee technology. It sits alongside Wi-Fi, Ethernet and low-power Bluetooth technologies, providing more connectivity options for smart home devices. Matter, on the other hand, is an open source standard for smart homes and is an application layer protocol. The Thread-based use of Matter technology, known as Matter over Thread, is juxtaposed with the WiFi-based Matter over WiFi, providing interoperability for smart home devices.
The new Filogic chips developed by MediaTek and Google will support both Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Thread protocols. This means that upcoming smart home products will be able to more flexibly adapt to different network environments and device requirements. In addition, the chip will also support the Matter standard, allowing devices from different manufacturers to interconnect while providing greater security.
In addition to cooperation at the technical level, MediaTek also plans to work with Google to integrate Google Home into home appliances to help consumers build a smarter home experience. MediaTek's upcoming Filogic chips will utilize the 2.5 GHz ISM shared band and MediaTek's coexistence and offloading capabilities to ensure a seamless connectivity experience.
With this collaboration between MediaTek and Google, future smart home devices will be able to offer richer and more efficient functionality while providing users with a more convenient and secure smart living experience.
