NVIDIA secures huge AI chip order worth $500 million from India

Indian data center operator Yotta plans to buy an additional $500 million worth of AI chips from partner NVIDIA, bringing the total order to $1 billion and helping Yotta to further strengthen its artificial intelligence cloud services capabilities. The news was revealed by Yotta CEO Sunil Gupta to Reuters recently.
Yotta announced last year that it would order about 16,000 NVIDIA H100 chips, with deliveries expected in July of this year, and Gupta said the additional order would be fulfilled by March 2025, and would consist of nearly 16,000 H100 and GH200 series AI chips. For NVIDIA, the Indian market is crucial. Last September, NVIDIA entered into a partnership with Indian giants Reliance Industries and Tata Group to develop cloud infrastructure, language models, and generative AI applications.
It is understood that Yotta, a company under the real estate group of Indian billionaire Niranjan Hiranandani, is also NVIDIA's partner in India, operating three data center parks located in Mumbai, Gujarat and New Delhi nearby. In recent years, tech giants such as Microsoft, Google and Amazon have stepped up investments in India's cloud computing and data center sectors to meet growing local storage and processing needs. Homegrown Indian consortiums have also joined the race, with billionaires such as Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani aggressively laying their hands on the sector.
NVIDIA has a virtual monopoly on AI computing systems globally, and its products are widely used to power generative AI applications such as ChatGPT. Yotta expects the Indian AI market to reach $14 billion by 2030.
