Renesas Electronics (TSE: 6723), a global provider of semiconductor solutions, today announced the first development kit to support the new Matter protocol, as well as all future Wi-Fi, Bluetooth® Low Power (BLE), and IEEE 802.15.4 (Thread) solutions, as well as the recently acquired Dialog Semiconductor and Celeno Communications products.

The Matter protocol securely and robustly interconnects various smart devices from different manufacturers across the ecosystem, promising to address the interoperability of smart home devices. It serves as an application layer protocol that abstractly encapsulates underlying connectivity technologies such as Wi-Fi, Thread and low-power Bluetooth. With a common software stack, device manufacturers building products using the Matter protocol will support a variety of smart home ecosystems and voice services. Smart home users will also be able to shop for any Matter-certified device, regardless of what platform it is.
Renesas is a member of the Connectivity Standards Alliance. The Alliance is a global organization that creates standards and certifications for the Internet of Things. We are pleased to see the commitment of preeminent developers in the IoT industry, such as Renesas, to support the Matter standard," said Chris LaPre, technical director of the Alliance. This is another indication that the standard is gaining positive momentum at the device manufacturer and component vendor level."
Sean McGrath, Vice President of Connectivity & Audio Business Unit, IoT & Infrastructure Business Unit, Renesas Electronics, said, "As a preeminent supplier in embedded processing, connectivity is a key part of Renesas' IoT solutions. With our broad range of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi solutions, as well as our Thread products in development, we are well positioned to leverage the benefits of the Matter standard in a wide variety of applications with our customers around the world."
Renesas has more than 10 years of experience in low-power Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technologies. With more than 600 million wireless devices shipped, Renesas has built a wide range of wireless connectivity system-on-chips for the Internet of Things, wearables and home networking. Its easy-to-use development tools for Matter will help IoT device manufacturers who are looking to integrate their products into the Matter ecosystem to get to market faster.
