It is understood that Samsung Micro LED TV using low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) thin-film transistor (TFT), is also the first Micro LED TV without the use of printed circuit board (PCB) technology. And Samsung changed so that the latest model, smaller size TV can support 4K resolution. It is reported that the 89-inch Micro LED TV TFT will be provided by AUO and Samsung Display, and it is expected that AUO will give priority to respond to product trial production, and Samsung Display will participate in the mass production process in the third quarter.
Samsung plans to launch 89-inch, 101-inch and 114-inch Micro LED TV last year a total of three models, but delayed the release. According to the report, the production plan for 114-inch TVs was unclear from the beginning, and even 101-inch TVs disappeared from the production plan in the second half of last year. As for the production time of 89-inch TV, it was also delayed from May last year to the third quarter, when it was expected that Samsung would at least launch a new Micro LED TV before the end of last year, but there was no news.
It is speculated that the reason for the delayed launch of the 89-inch Micro LED TV is because of technical difficulties, if the Micro LED TV supports the same resolution, the smaller the product the more difficult it is to produce, with a smaller area, the Micro LED chip must be more closely transferred, the repair part is also more difficult. Samsung 89-inch TV Micro LED chip size of 34 × 58 microns (um), smaller than ever; the company launched in 2020, 146-inch machine chip size of 125 × 225 um, released in 2021, 110-inch chip size of 75x125 um, so the smaller the chip, the more difficult to produce.
It is reported that Samsung last year plans to launch three kinds of Micro LED TV lineup (89, 101 and 114 inches), which first do the most difficult to manufacture 89-inch models, is to avoid competition with each other and existing models, and 89-inch models and 2021 release of 110-inch PCB-based Micro LED TV difference is the largest.
In order to make the product popular, Samsung will last year's 89-inch TV tentatively priced at $80,000, the price is lower than the existing PCB-based 110-inch models, which are priced at 170 million won.
