Samsung adjusts chip plant construction plan to cope with changes in market demand

        February 20 news, Samsung's semiconductor business is facing continuing challenges, but the company is still optimistic about the market outlook for the second half of this year. In order to improve efficiency and better respond to market demand, Samsung is its chip factory to make some adjustments.
 
 
        Specifically, Samsung is adjusting the construction schedule of the P4 factory in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, in order to prioritize the construction of the PH2 clean room. Previously, Samsung had announced a moratorium on the construction of new production lines in the P5 plant. Samsung is adjusting its construction program based on market dynamics. Pyeongtaek is one of Samsung's main semiconductor manufacturing centers, where Samsung's foundry operations are concentrated and where the company produces memory chips. Currently, the P1, P2 and P3 plants are operational, while P4 and P5 are under construction.
        With construction of the P5 plant temporarily stalled, Samsung will focus on completing the PH2 clean room at P4, which will be dedicated to foundry chip manufacturing. Samsung is trying to expand its foundry capacity to grab more customers from TSMC, and the P4 line will also build the PH3 clean room, which will be used to produce memory chips such as DRAM. Samsung is reportedly adjusting its construction plans because they believe that demand for these products will rise in the near future and want to have capacity ready to meet demand.
        According to the concern, although Samsung previously said that the suspension of the P5 production line was for inspection, market analysts believe that due to the market downturn, Samsung is likely to be slowing down the pace of construction. Samsung has been hit so hard by the tough market situation that it has even canceled all bonuses for employees in its chip division this year.
