Samsung and Micron plan to raise DRAM prices by 15% to 20% in Q1 2024, sources say

       January 3, according to foreign media reports, news that Samsung and Micron plan to raise DRAM prices by 15% to 20% in the first quarter of 2024. According to foreign media reports, in the fourth quarter of 2023, neither DRAM nor NAND supply shortage, which indicates that the end market demand has not yet recovered, and is expected to be more conservative in the market outlook before the Chinese New Year in February 2024, according to foreign media reports.
 
 
       According to foreign media, the market expects DRAM supply to be tight in 2024 due to the increasing application of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing, as well as the gradual recovery of the smartphone and PC markets.  There are reports that Samsung recently announced that DRAM prices will rise by at least 15% from the first quarter of 2024.          The report claims that certain memory module manufacturers have been notified by Samsung of a DRAM price increase of at least 15% in the first quarter of 2024. Although Samsung did not specify the price of NAND flash, the upward trend in NAND prices is expected to continue. In addition to Samsung, Micron is also considering raising DRAM prices by about 15-20%.
At the end of November 2023, the latest data released by the research organization showed that in the third quarter of 2023, global DRAM sales reached $13.24 billion, up 19.2% YoY, and has achieved YoY growth for two consecutive quarters. Among them, Samsung Electronics' DRAM sales were $5.2 billion, up 17% YoY, still the top vendor, but its share dropped to 39.4%. SK Hynix's DRAM sales were $4.63 billion, up 34.59% YoY, with a share of 35%, second only to Samsung Electronics. The research firm also predicted that global DRAM sales are expected to grow nearly 30 percent year-on-year in 2024.
