Samsung Expects its 2023 Semiconductor Operating Profit to Reach KRW 13.1 Trillion

Samsung said in a recent explanatory document sent to employees about performance bonuses that it expects its annual operating profit from semiconductor sales in 2023 to be about 13.1 trillion won, according to South Korean media outlet TheElec.

Samsung will pay performance bonuses to employees at the beginning of each year, the report said. The amount will be paid out of profits exceeding each business unit's target goals for the previous year, with up to 20 percent of surplus profits used as bonuses, and each employee will receive up to 50 percent of their annual salary as a bonus.
Samsung's semiconductor solutions di vision, which includes the memory, logic and foundry business units, is expected to have an operating profit of 13.1 trillion won in 2023. If this target is met, Samsung's semiconductor di vision employees are expected to receive a bonus equivalent to 5 to 11 percent of their annual salary in 2023, which will be paid in January 2024.
In order to receive a bonus of up to 50 percent, Samsung's semiconductor business unit will need to achieve an annual operating profit of 28 trillion won, a goal that is nearly impossible given the current downturn in the global memory chip market. Samsung's 2023 operating profit is expected to be about half of its 2022 annual operating profit, which analysts expect to be in the range of 25 trillion won to 26 trillion won.
