Semiconductor Industry Revenue down 7% in the 3Q on a Year-on-year Basis

        According to the Omdia report, the semiconductor market saw continuous revenue growth during the new crown epidemic pandemic that began in early 2020. During this period, the industry as a whole achieved eight consecutive quarters of record growth. However, the market has contracted over the past two quarters, with semiconductor industry revenues in the third quarter standing at US$147 billion, down 7% from US$158 billion in the previous quarter.
 
 
        The downward trend in the market has not been smooth," said Cliff Leimbach, senior research analyst at Omdia. While the second quarter decline was driven by weak PC market demand, which saw Intel fall 17 percent, the recent decline was due to weakness in the memory market. The decline in data centre, PC and mobile demand, combined with inventory adjustments by customers, in turn led to a 27% quarter-over-quarter decline in memory revenue."
        After record growth, the market began to cool as consumer confidence weakened and the industry experienced a historic decline in the third quarter. Semiconductor sales are forecast to increase due to increased consumer demand in the second half of the year. From 2002 to 2021, the semiconductor industry will grow at an average quarterly rate of 8%.
