Transphorm and Weltrend Semiconductor Inc Collaborate to Create Competitive Advantage for Customers with GaN System-in-Package Devices Supporting Mult

        Transphorm, Inc. (Nasdaq: TGAN), the world's leading supplier of gallium nitride (GaN) power semiconductors, and Weltrend Semiconductor Inc. (Weltrend, TWSE: 2436), a global leader in USB-C PD controller ICs for adapters, have announced a collaboration to deliver a 100-watt USB-C PD power adapter reference design. The reference design circuit utilizes the WT7162RHUG24A, a system-in-package (SiP) SuperGaN® power controller chip developed by the two companies, which achieves 92.2 percent efficiency in a quasi-resonant flyback (QRF) topology.
 
 
        This reference design is the second QRF topology USB-C PD adapter control board using the WT7162RHUG24A from Weltrend Semiconductor Inc. Earlier in the year, Weltrend released a 65-watt adapter control circuit. Both adapter control boards utilize the same SuperGaN SiP, enabling customers to achieve economies of scale by realizing a 100 watt product design at a better cost compared to competing solutions. It also demonstrates that the 65 watt power stage SuperGaN SiP also meets the performance and thermal requirements of a 100 watt power stage design. 
        Philip Zuk, Transphorm's Senior Vice President of Business Development and Marketing, said, "The idea that GaN-based ICs can simplify a design is great, but it has to be 'integrated', a single integrated device with the necessary controllers built into the package. This is where Weltrend and Transphorm's SuperGaN SiPs come in. Our system-in-package (SiP) is a simple, normally closed solution that requires no protection circuitry, drivers or external controllers. In addition to this, the same SiP is suitable for 65 and 100 watt power adapters. Products and solutions with these highlights truly demonstrate the full range of performance benefits and robustness inherent in Gallium Nitride. Currently, this is only possible with Transphorm's SuperGaN platform."
