TSMC's JASM Japan Kumamoto Plant to Open in February

        Japanese media Kumamoto Nichiichi News reported that TSMC's Japanese subsidiary JASM Kumamoto Prefecture Kikuyo Town, the first factory is scheduled to hold an opening ceremony on February 24, the end of the year mass production.
 
 
        TSMC Kumamoto first factory in April 2022, the building is basically completed, part of the office building in August 2023 activation, production equipment in October 2023 shipped to the plant to install, mass production by the end of this year.
        JASM employs about 1,400 people, including 400 Taiwan transferees, and will recruit about 250 recent graduates in the spring. TSMC said it is hiring about 1,700 full-time employees after the plant goes into operation, and recruitment is progressing well.
        In addition to the presence of TSMC executives at the opening ceremony, Japanese government officials will also be present, as TSMC said it is prioritizing the construction of a second plant in Kumamoto Prefecture, and may announce the location of the new plant at the same time.
        TSMC's first Kumamoto plant plans to produce mature processes such as 12/16nm and 22/28nm. President Wei Zhejia said recently that mass production at the end of this year, the Japanese government has decided to subsidize TSMC Kumamoto first plant up to 476 billion yen. TSMC is also considering building a second plant in Kumamoto to produce 5-nanometer advanced processes.
        In addition, Bloomberg previously reported that TSMC has informed its supply chain partners that it is considering building a third plant in Kumamoto to produce advanced 3-nanometer advanced processes, under the project code name TSMC Fab 23 Phase III. However, it is not clear when the third factory will be built, but by the time the new factory is in mass production, 3nm may lag behind the latest technology by one or two generations.
