According to relevant media reports, in order to develop a new generation of power semiconductors, 30 local semiconductor companies, universities and research institutes in South Korea will form a silicon carbide industry alliance on April 14 to deal with the rapidly growing silicon carbide (SiC), gallium nitride (GaN), gallium oxide (Ga2O3) and other wide-bandgap semiconductors led by the new power semiconductor market, thus forming the domestic silicon carbide ecosystem in South Korea.

It is reported that 30 Korean power semiconductor companies in the alliance will jointly participate in the development of power semiconductors for materials, components and equipment, and cultivate the development of materials, components and equipment companies related to silicon carbide semiconductors. Among them, LX Semicon will be responsible for the research and development of silicon carbide semiconductors, SK siltron will be responsible for silicon carbide substrates, and Hana Materials and STI will develop silicon carbide semiconductor parts and equipment technologies.
Gachon University, Kwangwoon University, and Kookmin University will support silicon carbide semiconductor R&D infrastructure, and the National Institute of Nanomaterials and the Korea Institute of Ceramic Engineering and Technology will provide technical support.
