On December 27, according to foreign media exposure, TSMC, Apple's main supplier, will start mass production of 3nm process chips this week. The process may first be used in the upcoming M2 Pro chip and carried on MacBook Pro and Mac mini products. In more detail, foreign media reported that TSMC will officially start mass production on Thursday, December 29. Apple is currently using TSMC's 4nm process in the A16 bionic chip of the iPhone 14 Pro series, but it may be upgraded to 3nm as soon as next year. In August this year, there was a report that M2? The Pro chip will be the first chip   based on the 3nm process.
It is reported that after the 3nm process is mass-produced, Apple will be the main customer of this new process, and Apple's self-developed M-series chip M2 Pro will be the first product of TSMC's 3nm process. In addition to the M2 Pro chip, there will be a number of Apple products using TSMC's 3nm process process later next year, such as the M3 chip and the A17 bionic chip on the iPhone 15 series.

At present, Apple, Nvidia, Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, and MediaTek have all expressed their willingness to let TSMC contract 3nm chips, but none of these companies have clearly announced a timetable for 3nm products. In addition, the foundry price of 3nm advanced process technology has skyrocketed. According to Digitimes, after the mass production of 3nm chips in the future, the single chip price of wafers will exceed 20,000 US dollars, which is double that of 7nm chips. According to another report, the M3 chip adopted in 2023 and the A17 bionic chip iPhone 15 will be based on TSMC's enhanced 3nm process, which has not yet been launched.
In the context of the weak consumer electronics market, most chip manufacturers will not risk increasing costs to promote the upgrading of chip manufacturing processes. In the future, the operation of various "squeezing toothpaste" products may become the norm.
