UMC Ranked No. 1 in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for the Global Chip Industry

        The 2022 Dow Jones Sustainability Indices have announced that chip foundry UMC has been ranked No. 1 in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) for the global chip industry, and is one of the few companies in Taiwan to be listed as a constituent of the DJSI-World Index for 15 consecutive years, as well as a member of the 2022 DJSI-Emerging Markets Index. "It is also one of the few companies in Taiwan to be listed as a constituent of the DJSI-Emerging Markets Index for 15 consecutive years, and a member of the DJSI-Emerging Markets Index in 2022, demonstrating UMC's long-term commitment and active implementation of ESG.
 
 
        The Dow Jones Sustainability Index, certified by S&P Global CSA, annually evaluates companies' sustainability efforts in the areas of "governance and economics", "environment" and "society". It is one of the most credible international sustainability indicators. The DJSI World Index selects approximately 2,500 large companies from around the world to participate in the competition each year, and the top 10% of companies in each industry are selected as constituent stocks for their sustainability performance. The Emerging Markets Index uses the top 800 companies in 20 emerging markets to select the top 10 per cent of companies in each industry in terms of sustainable performance as its constituent stocks.
        UMC's Co-General Manager and Chief Sustainability Officer, Mr. Jan Sanjay, said that UMC plays an important role in the semiconductor chip manufacturing industry and has a key influence on global sustainability. Driven by the philosophy that sustainability and corporate profitability go hand in hand, the company has integrated its operational strategy with its sustainability goals and is planning its 2030 sustainability strategy blueprint. We are pleased to be recognised by the DJSI for the 15th consecutive year, demonstrating UMC's omnipresence in technology and commitment to creating a better future.
        This year, UMC not only excelled in its overall ESG performance, but also received the highest scores in the semiconductor industry in the "Environmental Aspect" and "Governance and Economic Aspect", especially in the "Policy Impact", "Environmental Report" and "Sustainability" categories. "In particular, the company scored full marks in the 'Policy Impact', 'Environmental Reporting' and 'Product Responsibility' categories. In the social aspect of the competition, the industry was also ranked as a leader in the 'social reporting', 'human capital development' and 'privacy protection' sub-categories.
